South Africa commits to high tech number plates
August 20, 2008 on 1:19 pm | By admin | In AutosSouth Africa seems to be the first country in the world to announce it’s intention to implement intelligent number plates in order to combat crime. The new plates will have Two Dimensional barcodes and Radio Frequency chips included. Plates will only be available through government approved suppliers and proof of ID and entitlement will be required when buying the number plates. The plates will be renewed every 5 years although the owner will be able to keep the same registration number. All other countries will have their eyes on this new system to see how effective it is in combating rising crime.
