Can’t I just watch my bills and credit report?

Can I just watch my bills and credit reports, or do I need to pay some service like Lifelock? What else can I do? Are people happy with the service Lifelock provides? I would really love to find some Lifelock reviews that I could check out to see whether I think the service would be worthwhile for me or not. I don’t want to pay money for something that isn’t necessary though, so I want to find out exactly what they do for their customers that we can’t do for ourselves.
