Getting hearing help from hearing aids

You may have had friends who have put off getting hearing help for years. Then, when they finally get hearing aids they may say the aids aren’t helping them. Frequently the aids are in fact restoring hearing to normal levels, but the brain no longer is able to interpret the sound signals as words. The inner ear hearing aids can provide sound correction to normal levels, but they cannot do the brain’s job of processing sound into intelligible words. To communicate, these people rely on other clues, such as lip reading. Without these outside clues, words don’t make sense to them.
